My dad really wanted to see all the ancient ruins. That was his priority on the trip, so on Monday, a few of us went to Chichen Itza, which is probably the most famous of all the ancient ruins. We booked a tour that included a few other things too. On the way, we stopped at a small town with a really old church. Then we stopped for lunch and got to see how the natives make some of their food.
When we arrived at the site there were so many people, it was crazy just getting in. Once we got in it was amazing to see the buildings and hear the stories. Our tour guide was LDS so he shared some of the things that point to our religion. It was cool, but we didn't have much time to walk around and explore on our own. It was cool to see though.
On our way back they took us to one of the biggest cenote's that you can swim in. A cenote is a huge rocky whole in the ground made from water running through limestone, I think. This stop actually ended up being one of the coolest things because you climb down into it and then you can just swim in this huge hole of water and look up.
The last full day of our trip was spent sleeping in and hanging out on the beach for most of the day. We played a little volleyball and swam in the ocean. Wendee and I went parasailing, which was really fun to be up high in the air looking down at all the cool colors of the water. What a beautiful place.
After a relaxing day on the beach, we went to Xplor again. Everyone saw how much fun Wes and I had, so they wanted to go too. This time we were going at night though, so everything was lit up like fire. They call it Xplor Fuego (fire). It was fun to have everyone there and to see it with all the fire. Still my favorite place ever.
