This year we had the amazing opportunity to go to Cancun to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary with all of my brothers and sisters and their spouses. It was seriously the trip of a lifetime, and we will definitely try to make it back with the kids one day. Wes and I went down a few days early to spend some time by ourselves before everyone else got there. We stayed at a small resort that was perfect for us. Our room was right on the beach with an amazing view.
The first day we were there, we went to a park called Xplor, which I made into it's own post. The following day, Abel, Sheri, Ben and Julie arrived and we all went on a cool adventure snorkeling along the reef that's a ways out into the ocean. It was awesome to be so close to the sea life. We saw a sea turtle, a lobster, stingrays, and so many different fish and plants. It was amazing. Wes even went and enjoyed it. It took him a bit to warm up to the idea of being in deep water, but then he just followed the guide and he did great.
The rest of our family arrived that night and we had fun eating from the buffet and just hanging out. The next day we went to Tulum, which is an ancient city right on the coast. It was really cool to see the really old structures.
As we left Tulum, we walked through a gift store and I saw these funny shirts. They made me laugh. Then for the rest of the day we went to a place called Xel-Ha, which is where a big fresh water river meets the ocean and it's like a natural water park. We spent the afternoon there and enjoyed the water and beauty.
The next day was Sunday and we went to the local ward there, which was cool to see and talk to the members there. We went to the neighboring hotel and tried their lunch buffet, since we could. Then the rest of the day was spent relaxing and napping. That evening we went to one of the fancier restaurants and had a celebration dinner with mom and dad. They made us wear these funny hats and they made it special for mom and dad. It was a fun treat for them.
