Oakley had his first soccer game on Saturday. I signed him up cause I want him to learn how to work with other kids, and get some structure from someone besides me. Plus, he's a big kid and will probably be in sports his whole life, might as well start him young, right? We didn't really teach him much about the game and how you play, so for the first little while he didn't really know what to do. They blew the whistle and he would run to the ball and just stand by and almost "box out" the other kids. He didn't get that he had to kick it. Then of course we yelled to kick it and he got the hang of it. He was really aggressive and was almost always the one kicking the ball for his team. He would do good, but then when the ball was starting to get away from him he would fall on the ground and grab it. Of course Wes and I would yell from the sideline "No hands", which we never taught him before, and by the end of the game he wasn't doing that much anymore. He made two and a half goals. Two for the other team, and the half was him and his little teammate kicking it in together. Like I said, by the end of the game he was doing really well. He kept getting confused which goal was his, so he'd start kicking the ball one way, and we'd all yell to go the other way, so he'd have to try and turn around, but by then someone else would come get the ball, but that's ok, at least he wasn't like his teammate who just stood in the middle of the field the whole time staring at the trees. Tonight is his second game so we'll see if he remembers what we taught him the first game.
